How to Update Your Domain DNS to the New Server?

Updated Time:2026-07-02  Views:80

After your server migration is complete, if your website is accessed via a domain name, you need to update your DNS records to point to the new server's IP address. Otherwise, visitors will continue to be directed to the old server.

Steps

1. Log in to your domain management console.

2. Go to the DNS Management page.

3. Locate the A record (or AAAA record) for your domain.

4. Update the record value to the public IP address of the new server.

5. Save the changes and wait for DNS propagation.

Notes

  • If you are using a CDN, load balancer, or third-party DNS provider, be sure to update the corresponding configuration as well.
  • DNS changes typically take 1–15 minutes to propagate, depending on your TTL settings and DNS caching by ISPs.
  • You can verify that the DNS has been updated by using ping, nslookup, or an online DNS lookup tool to confirm that your domain resolves to the new server's IP address.
